6. Measures of Central Tendency: What is the Mean, Median, and Mode?

Measures of Central Tendency (MCT) are a way to measure the “center” of a data set. The most common measures of central tendency are the mean, median, and mode.

The mean is the average of a set of numbers, calculated by adding all of the numbers together and dividing by the number of numbers. The median is the middle value of a set of numbers when they are arranged in numerical order. The mode is the most frequently occurring number in a set of numbers.

These three measures of central tendency are useful for summarizing data sets and understanding the “center” of the data set. Depending on the data set, one of these measures may be more appropriate than another. For example, if a data set has two numbers that occur more frequently than other numbers, the mode would be the best measure of central tendency as it reflects the most common value in the data set.

In any case, the mean, median, and mode are important measures of central tendency that allow us to better understand our data sets and draw meaningful conclusions.

About Me

The following series of blog posts were generated using ChatGPT and curated by me, as an experiment to highlight how A.I. technologies can be used to make a positive impact. As a high school student I found ChatGPT to be very helpful. I hope other students will also find this series of blog posts to be useful.
